U-Links Partners and Associated Organizations
The Trent Centre for Community-Based Education - The TCCBE is the sister organization to U-Links; their office is located at Trent University in Peterborough. TCCBE promotes and facilitates research partnerships between community organizations and students and faculty from Trent University. U-Links works with the TCCBE to match research projects in Haliburton County with Trent University students.
County of Haliburton - As of March 2009, the County of Haliburton has recognized U-Links as a formal partner. They support the initiatives of the U-Links program and recognize the contribution that this program has made through local post secondary research opportunities.
The Township of Minden Hills - The Township of Minden Hills has been a founding partner in U-Links since its conception in 1999. Minden Hills contributes office space at 93 Bobcaygeon Road, in-kind, to this partnership as well as allocating a portion of their 2009 budget to supporting U-Links. Minden Hills has hosted numerous U-Links research projects and has been very satisfied with the results.
Municipality of Highlands East - The Municipality of Highlands East has allocated a portion of their 2009 budget to supporting U-Links. Highlands East is in the process of hosting the second phase of a Community Economic Development Study. The first phase was completed by a Trent University student in the 2008-2009 academic year.
Community-Based Research Networks, Centres, and Organizations
The Loka Institute - A non-profit research and advocacy organization concerned with the social, political, and environmental consequences of research, science and technology.
Community Research Network - A project of Loka, the Community Research Network is a transnational network of organizations involved in community-based research.
Canadian Policy Research Network - A non-profit organization comprised of four research networks focusing on a variety of research themes relating to economic and social policy.
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) - An arms-length organization that supports university-based social sciences and humanities research and training.
Community-University Connections at the University of Victoria explores the use of science in environmental and social policy, and facilitates collaborative research and information exchange between community organisa tions and university-based researchers.The Center for Urban Research & Learning (CURL) - A research center promoting equal partnerships between Loyola University Chicago and local communities. CURL is a member of ISSNET.
Wellesley Central- Promoting Urban Health - Promotes and facilitates partnerships between communities and research institutions for the purposes of urban health research. Wellesley Central provides CBR workshops, seminars, and funding for urban health research initiatives.
University of Toronto Environmental Resource Network (UTERN) - Provides funding for student-run environmental projects and seeks to improve awareness of and beh aviour surrounding environmental issues in the Toronto area. The website also provides information on environmental activities at the university.
