Faculty: What U-Links can do for you
Projects
Staff at U-Links and the TCCBE have a rich knowledge of community-based education underway and completed in Peterborough and Haliburton counties, and of current needs. We also network with a wide variety of organizations and individuals involved in this work -- both academic and community-based -- across the country and abroad. We are eager to share this information and/or help you make connections.
Teaching
Full or half credit Courses: If a student has asked you to supervise their Community Project Placement course, check out the links above for more details.
In-class Assignments: Many professors teaching upper-year courses strive to develop course content that allows students to actively use the skills they have developed, and to gain experience relevant to future academic or career aspirations. By incorporating community-based project into a course, professors give students this opportunity, while also providing valuable assistance to local organizations.
Program staff have experience helping to integrate community-based projects into courses. We take care of logistical details, leaving professors free to concentrate on theory, skills and methods. Normally, this begins with a brief presentation on the Community-Based Education Program and projects that may be of interest within the course. With their professor's help, students select projects appropriate for the course, then meet with the organizations that requested the project ("host" organizations) to confirm that everyone is comfortable working together. Program staff then help students to develop Placement Agreements, to establish the project's terms of reference. Once the project is underway, U-Links/TCCBE staff provide logistical support and trouble-shooting.
