Students: Working with U-Links
The U-Links office is open Monday-Friday from 9:30-4:30. During these hours, staff may be out of the office meeting with community groups etc., but we will do our best to return phone calls and emails as quickly as possible. If you need immediate assistance and U-Links staff cannot be reached, please contact the staff at the TCCBE and they will try to help you.
There is a U-Links box at the TCCBE office located in Langton House at Traill campus (Reid St. and London St.). You can drop things off there for pick up. Someone from U-Links is in Peterborough at least once a month however it is a good idea to let us know via email if you have dropped something off.
Haliburton County
Haliburton County is located about 1 ½ hour's drive north of Peterborough in a beautiful setting of forests, lakes and fresh air. Doing research in Haliburton County offers you the opportunity to get away from your familiar surroundings in Peterborough and contribute an objective view into the process of solving current challenges in this rural community.
Haliburton County is approximately 4500 km2 in size with a year round population of about 16,000 people. The population is dispersed and there is no real urban centre. There are a number of small towns in the county of which Haliburton Village and the Town of Minden are the largest. Please visit the County website for more demographic and other information.
Traveling to Haliburton County
We don't want distance to be a barrier to students who wish to conduct research in the county, therefore, students who wish to do a project in the county will be supported in terms of their travel arrangements. Detailed information is available on the Transportation page.
Resources
U-Links houses the Haliburton County Grey Literature Collection, which includes all past research reports, and papers from the Bioregionalism course at Trent. The Bioregionalism papers are also available in the archives at Trent University. The Collection, which you can search online, also includes hundreds of other unpublished resources on Haliburton County and may be a good place to start your research, especially if your host organization has worked with U-Links before. U-Links staff can also help point you towards other resources on the County.
